College GameDay makes picks for Notre Dame-Miami game

ESPN’s College GameDay crew has made its picks for tonight’s playoff-worthy battle between No. 3 Notre Dame (8-1) and No. 7 Miami (8-0, 6-0 ACC) in Coral Gables, F.L.

Here’s what each member of the panel decided after appearing on Miami’s campus for the first time in over a decade:

Desmond Howard: Miami

Alex Rodriguez (guest): Miami

Lee Corso: Notre Dame

Kirk Herbstreit: No pick (calling the game)

The last time Miami was ranked higher than No. 7 was back in 2005 when Larry Coker — who was in his second-to-last season with the program — and the Hurricanes took their 8-1 record and lost to 6-3 Georgia Tech at home in the Miami Orange Bowl.

Like today, that was Week 11.

Despite leading the nation with 13 straight wins, ESPN’s FPI gives the Hurricanes a meager 38.1 percent chance for victory against Notre Dame (albeit a tremendous shot at going 11-1 before playing in the ACC title game). The Canes, who are 13-8 against the spread since coach Mark Richt took over prior to the 2016 season, are 3.5-point underdogs.

This is the first time under Richt that they are a home underdog.

A heated rivalry dating back to 1955, Notre Dame has won four in a row and five of the last six, leading the series 18-7-1. Only three of the last 20 matchups have come within one score, including last season’s 30-27 final in favor of the Irish.

Buckle your seatbelts. Notre Dame-Miami will kickoff at 8 p.m. ET on ABC
