Nebraska football remains unranked but received one vote in the latest Associated Press rankings, released Tuesday. The Huskers also received 30 votes in the latest Amway Coaches Poll.
Previous rankings (AP/Amway Coaches Poll): NR/NR
New rankings (AP/Amway Coaches Poll): NR/NR
What it means: It honestly doesn’t mean much at this point. Nebraska escaped a close 43-36 win over Arkansas State on Saturday, so not many expected the Huskers to be ranked after Week 1. If Nebraska can secure a win over Oregon on Saturday, it will help make the case for the Huskers to be included going forward.
However, a win over the Ducks likely won’t be enough to push Nebraska into the top 25 after Week 2. As noted after the inaugural Associated Press rankings, the Huskers can expect to break into the top 25 if they escape non-conference play undefeated, similar to the 2016 season.
What’s next: Nebraska faces Oregon on Saturday, Sept. 9, in Eugene, Ore. The game will be broadcast at 4:30 p.m. ET (1:30 p.m. local) on FOX.
