College football rankings: Michigan State doesn’t crack Top 25 but receives 1 vote after season-opening win

Michigan State picked up a win over Bowling Green on Saturday to start the season at 1-0, but it has much more work to do to land in the Top 25.

The Spartans did, however, receive one vote in the Associated Press Top 25. They did not receive any votes in the latest Amway Coaches Poll. They picked up one vote in each preseason poll.

Previous rankings (AP/Amway Coaches Poll): NR/NR

New rankings (AP/Amway Coaches Poll): NR/NR

What it means: After last season, it will take a lot more than a win over Bowling Green for Michigan State to be in serious consideration for a ranking. A couple of tough games against Western Michigan and Notre Dame coming up will offer the opportunity to potentially break in.

What’s next: Michigan State (1-0) hosts Western Michigan (1-0) on Saturday (3:30 p.m. ET, Big Ten Network).
