College football rankings: Alabama is No. 1 in AP Top 25 preseason poll

The preseason AP Top 25 poll was released on Monday and some familiar names are on top.

Alabama unsurprisingly leads the poll’s first edition of the 2017 season, with Ohio State, Florida State, USC and Clemson rounding out the top five.  Big Ten teams Penn State, Wisconsin and Michigan aren’t far behind.

Here’s how the coaches voted in the USA Today/Amway Coaches Poll, which was revealed Aug. 3. Alabama got the No. 1 ranking by picking up 49 first-place votes. Defending champion Clemson got seven No. 1 votes but is only No. 5.
