While the rest of college football’s playoff contenders were in action last week, USC rested. As a result, the Trojans didn’t move much in the latest College Football Playoff standings.
USC (10-2) is ranked 10th, up 1 spot from last week where it had been for several weeks. It is the sixth-lowest ranked team that is set to play in a conference championship this week, ahead of TCU, UCF, Memphis, Fresno State and Stanford, who the Trojans face on Friday in the Pac-12 final.
Four Pac-12 teams were included in the rankings: USC, No. 12 Stanford, No. 13 Washington and No. 18 Washington State.
USC is guaranteed a spot in a New Year’s Six bowl game with a win over Stanford. A loss wouldn’t eliminate the Trojans from major bowl consideration but it would need to finish in the top 12 of the final poll, which will be released on Sunday, to get selected.
