College Football Playoff rankings: Virginia Tech ranked No. 22

The College Football Playoff committee kept the Virginia Tech Hokies in the top 25, moving them to No. 22 in the College Football Playoff rankings ahead of championship weekend in the 2017 season.

The committee released its fifth playoff rankings on Tuesday, Nov. 28. The positioning is critically important, as there is just one more rankings to be released on Sunday, Dec. 3. Like all the previous rankings, this one includes 25 teams, but only the Top 4 teams make the playoffs.

Honestly, the most important part of Virginia Tech staying ranked is it helps the resumes of both Clemson and Miami. The Tigers and Hurricanes, who will square off in the ACC Championship this Saturday, each beat the Hokies by double digits. They also lost on the road against Georgia Tech.

But it’s also good for team morale. Virginia Tech has a shot to win 10 games for a second straight season under coach Justin Fuente, who only took over the Hokies last year.

Last week, Virginia Tech beat rival Virginia, 10-0, for the 14th straight year. It was the Hokies’ third shutout of the season.

Virginia Tech will find out which bowl they will attend on Sunday after the final College Football Playoff rankings are revealed.
