Northwestern is No. 21 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings, where were released Tuesday. The Wildcats moved up one spot from last week after picking up a 42-7 win over Illinois on Saturday.
The victory was Northwestern’s seventh in a row, ensuring the Wildcats would enter bowl season on a streak that’s flipped the narrative of their season. The Wildcats lost to Duke, 41-17, the second week of the season, and have spent every following week digging themselves out of that hole.
The CFP committee seems to have taken notice. Northwest’s only other two losses were to Penn State and Wisconsin, which are slotted No. 9 and No. 4, in the latest CFP rankings, respectively. Ohio State is at No. 8, and Michigan State is at No. 16.
