After beating UMass this past Saturday, Mississippi State came in at No. 16 in the updated College Football Playoff rankings, which were released on Tuesday night. The Bulldogs were No. 16 in the first rankings released last week.
The top four teams in the rankings at the end of the regular season will play in the College Football Playoff.
Mississippi State has a chance to move up the rankings next week, if it can pull off an upset victory over Alabama on Saturday. The Bulldogs host the Crimson Tide at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
After dropping consecutive road games to Georgia and Auburn in late September, Mississippi State has won four straight games — victories over BYU, Kentucky, Texas A&M and UMass. This week’s matchup with Alabama is the most challenging left on the Bulldogs’ schedule, as they then close out the season with games against Arkansas and Ole Miss.
For comparison, Mississippi State is ranked No. 18 in both the AP Top 25 Poll and Coaches Poll.
