Mississippi State had an eventful week, with few of the developments good for the Bulldogs. However, they remain ranked in the latest College Football Playoff rankings, checking in at No. 23 when the latest edition was released Tuesday night.
Last Thursday, the Bulldogs lost to rival Ole Miss, 31-28, in a dramatic Egg Bowl that saw Nick Fitzgerald sustain a gruesome ankle injury. Then on Sunday, Dan Mullen left the program to become Florida’s next coach.
The Bulldogs are 8-4, and they should be in line for a quality bowl, despite stumbling down the stretch this season. Mississippi State lost two of its last three games to close the regular season.
The Bulldogs still are searching for a new coach, and a hire is expected to happen soon.
