Clemson QB Kelly Bryant on being ranked No. 1: ‘Bout time’

The final College Football Playoff selection committee rankings before the selection show won’t be unveiled until Tuesday, but in the wake of losses by Alabama and Miami in Week 13, Clemson is expected to occupy the top spot, as it does in both the AP and Coaches polls.

Monday, Clemson quarterback Kelly Bryant was asked his thoughts on Clemson being ranked No. 1 in both polls. Bryant’s response was brief.

“‘Bout time,” he told reporters.

The Tigers opened the season ranked No. 3 in both polls and were ranked No. 2 in at least one of the two polls for six straight weeks. They also spent one week at No. 2 in the CFP committee rankings. However, Clemson hasn’t reached No. 1 since the final rankings last season.

The No. 1 seed int he College Football Playoff carries weight. With a win in Saturday’s ACC Championship game against Miami, Clemson would not only seal a spot in the four-team field, but if it is No. 1, it would likely play its semifinal game in New Orleans rather than Pasadena.
