Clay Travis is buying into South Carolina’s potential in a big way.
Writing for Outkick The Coverage, the analyst offered his SEC power rankings after the season’s opening games. Alabama is listed No. 1. But No. 2? That would be the Gamecocks.
Yes, Travis considers South Carolina the SEC’s second-best team at the moment, a take that will surprise some. Still, the Gamecocks created noise when they knocked off North Carolina State last Saturday in Charlotte. Travis sure took notice.
“With the SEC East appearing to be a total mess again, could South Carolina be a surprise team in the division? We’ll see,” Travis wrote in his column. “But for now the Gamecocks have the most surprising win of a young SEC season.”
That’s significant praise for the Gamecocks, and it’s easy to buy into South Carolina’s buzz. We’ll see if the Gamecocks can continue their momentum with Jake Bentley at quarterback. But the early returns are positive.
South Carolina travels to Missouri on Saturday.
