TCU has been just outside of the immediate College Football Playoff picture since its Week 9 loss to Iowa State, 14-7.
Then-No. 4 in the Associated Press poll, the Horned Frogs subsequently debuted at No. 8 in the initial College Football Playoff rankings. The following weekend, TCU cruised past Texas, 24-7, and thanks to some help from No. 6 Ohio State and No. 7 Penn State each dropping Week 10 matchups, the Horned Frogs are primed for another jump in the playoff rankings.
With the latest edition of said rankings set to release on Tuesday evening, CBS Sports predicted that TCU will climb two spots from No. 8 to No. 6.
If that’s the good news, the better news is that TCU will have yet another ideal opportunity to climb the rankings next week.
On Saturday, the Horned Frogs will travel to Oklahoma to square off with the No. 5-ranked Sooners. With a win, not only would TCU almost certainly climb at least one more spot entering the final two-week stretch of the regular season, but move into pole position in the Big 12 at 6-1.
Furthermore, a win over the Sooners would give TCU its third ranked resume-boating win of the season after previously knocking off then-No. 6 Oklahoma State and then-No. 23 West Virginia.
As it stands, though, TCU is considered an underdog with just a 35.5 percent chance to beat Oklahoma, per ESPN’s FPI.
The Horned Frogs and Sooners will square off at 8:00 p.m. ET on Saturday.
