Football season might not be treating Baylor too well, but the Bears men’s basketball team might alleviate some of those woes.
Baylor men’s basketball is the No. 1 ranked team in the state of Texas, according to CBS Sports, and should compete for a Big 12 title this season.
“Twenty-three D-I teams come from the Longhorn State,” CBS Sports’ Matt Norlander wrote. “We think six are top-50 quality this season, but Baylor sets up as the best for now. The Bears return all-important floor general Manu Lecomte. Scott Drew’s zone defense, combined with BU’s personnel, should amount to a top-15 [defense] in college basketball.”
Texas A&M checked in at No. 2 in the state of Texas rankings, while conference foe Texas sits at No. 3, TCU at No. 4 and Texas Tech at No. 7.
Preseason All-Big 12 honorable mention selections Lecomte and Jo Lual-Acuil Jr. should both be key to the Bears’ success in 2017-18.
Bears begin their season with a 1 p.m. ET clash with Central Arkansas on Nov. 10.
