Much to the enjoyment of both Auburn and Howard, Georgia is now 0-for-2 on landing a quarterback with the last name Newton from College Park, Ga.
While former Auburn star and Heisman Trophy award winner Cam Newton is well known, his little brother, Caylin, is starting to find his name in the spotlight as well. The younger Newton helped the Howard Bison pull off one of the biggest upsets in NCAA football history this past Saturday as they defeated UNLV in Las Vegas. For his part, Newton rushed for two touchdowns and threw for another as the 45-point underdogs achieved the unthinkable.
Cam wasn’t going to let the play of his brother go unnoticed, and when mentioning it, he got in a little shot at the Bulldogs and his teammate, former Georgia linebacker Thomas Davis.
“I was teasing Thomas, I said man listen, Georgia needs a winner,” Newton said, per Nick Bromberg of Yahoo! Sports. ““And every Newton I know is a winner. They missed out on yet another one.”
Cam does have bragging rights over the Bulldogs. In his only appearance in the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry, he threw for 148 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 151 yards and two more scores in a 49-31 Tigers win.
