According to Sports Illustrated, TCU won’t have to travel very far for a bowl game.
SI’s latest bowl projections have TCU earning an at-large bid to the Cotton Bowl in Arlington, Texas. The Horned Frogs are predicted to face off against the Washington Huskies. It’s a New Years’ Six bowl, sure, but it’s probably not the one the Frogs are eyeing.
TCU was No. 8 in the last Playoff rankings. Two schools above them, Penn State and Ohio State, suffered losses, so the Frogs may have a chance to move up. Their loss to Iowa State hurts, but it hasn’t eliminated them from Playoff contention.
This is the second major publication to put the Horned Frogs in a New Years Six bowl this week. CBS Sports had TCU playing in the Fiesta Bowl against USC.
Sports Illustrated did gave a Playoff berth to a Big 12 team — the Oklahoma Sooners, who the Horned Frogs will play this Saturday. Oklahoma State is also predicted to make an NY6 bowl (the Fiesta Bowl against Wisconsin, to be specific).
TCU’s game against Oklahoma doesn’t just have Big 12 title implications. It may very well be the defining win for either the Horned Frogs or the Sooners en route to a Playoff appearance.
