Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield will be headed to New York in a few weeks where he’ll likely collect a Heisman Trophy. But could he soon be going there permanently for his pro career?
Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller has the Oklahoma senior going to the New York Jets with the No. 7 overall pick in his 2018 NFL Mock Draft.
“He’s small, fiery, loud on the field and has a massive chip on his shoulder that can cause some problems like what happened against Kansas,” Miller wrote. “But he’s also a poised player who creates with his arm and legs and can be the type of leader an entire team will follow. … And if you can carve up Ohio State—a team loaded with future NFL talent on defense—you’re good enough for me.”
While much has been made about his antics on the field, Mayfield is still regarded as one of the best prospects in a quarterback-heavy draft class. In Miller’s mock draft, Mayfield would be the fourth quarterback taken and the second player from the Big 12 off the board.
The Sooners quarterback still, at the most, has three games left in an Oklahoma uniform. So, he has plenty of chances to boost his draft stock.
After not starting against West Virginia as punishment for his antics against Kansas, Mayfield will be back as Oklahoma’s starters against TCU at 12:30 p.m. ET, Saturday, in the Big 12 Championship Game.
