Greg Schiano’s name is just about everywhere after the Ohio State defensive coordinator reportedly came close to signing a deal to become Tennessee’s new head coach before protests both online and in person reportedly derailed the agreement .
New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick has always been a supporter of Schiano. He drafted several of Schiano’s Rutgers players, and Belichick’s son Stephen played long snapper for the Scarlet Knights. Belichick doubled down on his support of Schiano on Monday.
"100 percent. Yes. 100 percent." Bill Belichick on his continued support for Greg Schiano "Great respect, great football coach. Zero reservations, Zero."

This comes after a fierce backlash from the Volunteers’ fan base. There were tweets from members of the state government, on-campus protests and local establishments saying they would not serve the former Rutgers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach. Much of the outrage stemmed from documents unsealed in 2016 where Schiano is mentioned as knowing about Jerry Sandusky’s child sex abuse at Penn State. Schiano has denied any knowledge of the Sandusky abuse .
