Welcome to the Thursday edition of our Oklahoma DieHards morning roundup, where we take you through all the biggest headlines around Oklahoma athletics.

Bedlam draws huge crowd

Oklahoma football’s game against Oklahoma State had the best ratings of any FOX Sports 1 game this season, posting a 1.64 rating. It’s just another example of the Sooners’ national market power.

The rating was the best of the season, and best since the Red River Rivalry last season between Oklahoma and Texas. The Sooners obviously had a 45-40 win over the Longhorns that particular Saturday.

Lincoln Riley defends defense

Oklahoma is getting criticism for its defensive performance this season. However, coach Lincoln Riley pointed to the strength of the conference on the other end to defend his unit.

“The offenses in this league are that good,” Riley said on Mike and Mike. “You’re going to face really, really good offenses each and every week, and you don’t do that in the other conferences.”

Four of the top nine offenses in college football reside in the Big 12, including the No. 1 Sooners offense. However, the Oklahoma defense ranks No. 88 in total defense nationally.

Other headlines from the program:

  • Oklahoma vs. TCU is a key part of a massive college football weekend. No. 5 Oklahoma and No. 6 TCU play on Saturday, one of three top-10 matchups. It’s the first day with three top-10 matchups since Oct. 12, 2002.
  • DieHards reporter John Shinn is putting together the official visitors for the game Saturday, and the defensive side of the ball is getting plenty of extra attention.
  • FiveThirtyEight projects Oklahoma to make the College Football Playoff. The Sooners have a 42 percent chance to make it, which ranks No. 4 on the list.

Signing day

Many non-football sports had their fall signing period on Wednesday. Here’s a full list of the signees:

Other headlines from around the athletic department:

  • Oklahoma volleyball earned a 3-1 win over Texas Tech at the United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock on Wednessday to move to 4-8 in Big 12 play. Alyssa Enneking led the way with 26 kills and 13 digs.
