C.J. Beathard benched as 49ers quarterback for Jimmy Garoppolo

C.J. Beathard is no longer the starting quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers. Beathard, the rookie out of Iowa, has had the job for five games, but the 49ers announced Wednesday that Jimmy Garoppolo would start in the team’s upcoming game against the Bears.

Garoppolo was expected to take over the starting job for the 49ers after the franchise traded for him four weeks ago. However, Beathard kept the job until now for the 1-10 49ers.

In seven games (five starts), Beathard had 1,430 yards, 4 touchdowns and 6 interceptions while completing 54.9 percent of his passes. Beathard was a third-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Beathard could still have a future as a starter in the NFL, but it looks like Garoppolo will start under center for the 49ers for the rest of the 2017 season. Garoppolo, 26, is in his fourth NFL season. He backed up Tom Brady in New England before getting traded to San Francisco.
