Baylor loses first game of the season to lowly Liberty

After another tumultuous offseason with headlines regarding the school’s leadership and Art Briles, the school hit another low, this time on the football field.

The Bears lost Liberty, who is transitioning to the FBS, at home and gave an embarrassing performance on the defensive side of the ball, falling 48-45. Liberty converted 10 consecutive third downs in a row at one point.

Liberty threw for a school record 447 yards against the Bears defense and surrendered 48 points in the effort.

For the many people who wanted to see Baylor football suffer for how it handled its numerous sexual assault cases over the years, this has to feel like a small victory. Just three years ago, the Bears were competing for a spot in the playoffs and now they are losing to a Liberty team, that happened to hire Baylor’s former athletic director during the sexual assault controversy, that went 6-5 last year at the FCS level.
