Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield said he is expecting a tougher game against TCU this week when the two teams face off for the second time this season.

The Sooners and Horned Frogs play Saturday in the Big 12 Championship Game. Oklahoma won the first matchup handily, 38-20 on Nov. 11. However, Mayfield thinks playing TCU twice creates a new challenge.

“It’s always harder playing somebody the second time because you see exactly what they wanted to exploit and you have to fix and work on those things in the meantime,” Mayfield said, according to The Oklahoman’s Ryan Aber. “For us, it’s about adjusting on the fly. We’re gonna have our base game play and so will they.

The Sooners didn’t have too much to fix after the first round against the Frogs. Mayfield completed 18 of 27 passes for 333 yards and 3 touchdowns against TCU, and Oklahoma didn’t have to be very aggressive late in the game after taking a 38-14 lead into halftime.

However, Mayfield praised TCU coach Gary Patterson as a defensive mastermind earlier this season. Patterson will surely add some new aspects to his team’s game plan to try to slow down the Sooners. Mayfield said the key will be how Oklahoma responds to those adjustments.

“Then when you play someone for the second time, it’s about in-game adjustments and the most physical team is gonna win,” Mayfield said.

Oklahoma and TCU will face off at 11:30 a.m. CT on Saturday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The game will be broadcast on FOX.
