Let’s hope for Baker Mayfield’s sake that the Sports Illustrated cover curse isn’t real.
The dynamic, prolific, firey Sooners quarterback will be on the cover of the nation’s most widely-read sports magazine on December 4th.

While the story is good, it might be a little premature. The Sooners still have to win the Big 12 Championship to get into the playoff, and against a team with a defense like TCU’s, nothing is guaranteed.
The only guarantee is that if Oklahoma doesn’t win, they will not make the College Football Playoff. It’s pretty simple for the Sooners, they control their own destiny, win and you’re in.
The last time the pair met, Mayfield was dynamic, and threw for three touchdowns and over 300 yards. He’ll need to be his normal self — on the field, antics excluded — if the Sooners want to earn that shot at a national championship.
