If Baker Mayfield isn’t one of your college football award’s finalists, is it actually an award?
The senior Sooner has been ripping up the record books, and has been named a semifinalist for the Dave O’Brien Award and the Burlsworth Award most recently.
The nation’s top quarterback receives the Davey O’Brien award, while the nation’s best walk-on receivers the Burlsworth award. Mayfield has won the Burlsworth twice already.
This Saturday’s bout with TCU will be the biggest game of Mayfield’s career to date. If the Sooners win, they’ll claim first place in the Big 12, and their College Football Playoff hopes will remain alive. If they lose, it’s all gone.
TCU’s defense is one of the best in the nation, and Mayfield will have his work cut out for him. He’ll have to use his running game with Oklahoma’s stable of running backs to full effect. If Oklahoma can keep Trey Sermon fresh for the second half, there’s a strong chance that they can just wear on the TCU defense and get a solid amount of points on the board.
