Auburn-Georgia: Betting odds, picks for Week 11 (11/11/2017)

Auburn football has a huge opportunity ahead of it, and it starts with a matchup against the undefeated rival Georgia Bulldogs in Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday, November 11, 2017.

The Tigers (7-2, 5-1 SEC) need to win out in order to make it to the SEC Championship Game. Georgia has already punched its ticket to Atlanta by winning the SEC East. Auburn will look to avoid a fourth straight loss to its big regional rival with what should be a dramatic, nationally televised showdown on the Plains.

Auburn coach Gus Malzahn desperately needs a big win against a rival opponent after several years of fading in November. Georgia’s Kirby Smart could still stay unbeaten in his second season at his alma mater with another impressive road victory.

Auburn-Georgia betting odds

Auburn is a  2.5-point favorite, according to MyBookie. The over/under is 47 points.

Auburn-Georgia betting picks

Justin Ferguson: Auburn 27, Georgia 24

I like how Auburn match up against Georgia , even with Malzahn’s struggles in big games over the last few seasons. He finally has a dynamic, healthy quarterback for the first time since Nick Marshall, and he’s armed with his best defense yet. I trust Stidham more at home than the younger Fromm on the road, especially with Auburn’s pass rush performing so well this season. This should be a close , physical game between two evenly talented teams. Auburn won’t hold anything back as Malzahn desperately needs this win and can’t afford to fall into the same traps he did against Clemson and LSU. Give me the desperate home team by a few points in an instant classic.

Lauren Shute: Auburn 35, Georgia 17

Auburn has several advantages, one of which is that this game will unfold in Jordan-Hare. Jarrett Stidham and Kerryon Johnson have finally got Auburn’s offense where it needs to be an the Tigers defense is finally healthy. I expect Auburn to unleash offensive schemes they haven’t shown yet in an effort to steal the upset. Also, wish Jake Fromm well as e goes against Auburn’s defensive front, because they won’t stop coming after him all night long.

Benjamin Wolk: Auburn 21, Georgia 17

Two great defenses. Two great running games. Two young quarterbacks with moxy, but few unproven big-game moments. It makes for one legendary top-10 football game. Ultimately, I expect the quarterback play to be the (very) slight margin of difference. Jarrett Stidham will connect on his opportunities, and that’s the separation in an otherwise defensive struggle.

Zac Blackerby: Auburn 20,  Georgia 13

Auburn has the more talented teamed the better quarterback in this matchup, but the more I think about, the more trouble I have convincing myself that Gus Malzahn can get out of his own way in big games. I think Auburn could start fast, but the the Tigers offense will get predictable in the second half. I want to see a different Malzahn in big games than what we’ve seen so far this year. Will I? We’ll see Saturday.

Auburn-Georgia betting preview

  • Top 10 throwdown: This matchup will mark the fourth time in the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry that Auburn and Georgia will both be in the top 10 of the AP poll. In the three previous meetings (1971, 1983 and 2004), Auburn won all three.
  • ‘Bout that balance: Auburn is only one of five FBS teams to average at least 220 yards passing and 220 yards rushing this season, joining Clemson, Ohio State, South Florida and Toledo.
  • Still on top: Johnson leads all Power 5 running backs with 15 rushing touchdowns this season and he has 5 more than any other player in the SEC.
