Auburn football: Starting big week off the right way

Auburn football is the No. 1 topic in the War Eagle Wakeup every day — but we cover news, notes and analysis from across the Tigers’ sports world. Join us each morning to get caught up on everything you missed in the world of Auburn football, recruiting, basketball and more.

Step 1: Enjoy the last victory

Auburn football is preparing for one of the biggest football weekends of 2017. First, however, there’s a brief moment for fans to stop and enjoy a solid win against Texas A&M.

The next few weeks will bring home meetings with Georgia and Alabama, and there’s nothing quite like it. Still, the Tigers couldn’t have reached this point without that win.

So, here’s a look at the highlights from the victory in College Station:

Step 2: Stack up the weekly honors

Several players have been recognized by the Southeastern Conference this season, but on Monday it was offensive lineman Braden Smith and punter Aidan Marshall that received nods from the SEC.

Smith was an important part of Auburn’s much-improved pass protection that led to quarterback Jarrett Stidham’s big day through the air.

Marshall was dubbed the SEC Co-Freshman of the Week for his punting job at Kyle Field. The walk-on averaged 47.4 yards on his 5 punts and recorded a long of 70 yards. It was a critical part of the win, especially considering the Aggies’ Christian Kirk was a dangerous offensive threat for A&M.

Step 3: Get your head on the Plains

Auburn’s next game in Jordan-Hare is now quickly approaching. So, it’s best to get your mind right.

That means Auburn fans should get ready for tailgates and Tiger Walk while the student-athletes practice and study the Georgia Bulldogs.
