Auburn football: Stars keep aligning for Tigers

Auburn football

Auburn football is the No. 1 topic in the War Eagle Wakeup every day — but we cover news, notes and analysis from across the Tigers’ sports world. Join us each morning to get caught up on everything you missed in the world of Auburn football, recruiting, basketball and more.

Don’t be a doubter

Just (don’t) do it.

Star power on the sidelines

Because the SEC Championship Game is days away, there’s still time to enjoy Auburn’s Iron Bowl win against Alabama.

One of the coolest things from the weekend (though it doesn’t have much to do with X’s and O’s) was the audience watching coach Gus Malzahn’s team on the sidelines. The celebrities included Apple CEO Tim Cook, Hall of Fame member Charles Barkley, Bo Jackson and Takeo Spikes — and many more.

And it’s likely to be the same kind of group on the sidelines in Mercedes-Benz Stadium this Saturday.

Sights to remember

Auburn football is focused in on Georgia, but that doesn’t mean fans can’t bask in the glory of defeating their in-state rival.

Here are some of the most memorable sights from the Auburn-Alabama game:

The edge up front

Auburn’s offensive line on Wednesday afternoon was named a finalist for the Joe Moore Award presented to the most outstanding offensive line.

Led by Austin Golson and Braden Smith, the Tigers’ offensive front has a chance to make a statement against Georgia.

In other Auburn football news:

A résumé-building win

Dayton, Ohio, isn’t the easiest place to play, and the Flyers aren’t the easiest team to beat on their home floor.

Still, Auburn managed to take down Dayton on Wednesday night. Bruce Pearl’s team received some significant contributions from sophomore Mustapha Heron and Chuma Okeke as the Tigers continued to build their postseason tournament résumé.

Taking down the Warhawks

Auburn women’s basketball earned a win against Louisiana-Monroe at Auburn Arena on Wednesday night.

The Tigers forced a season-high 35 turnovers against ULM and junior Janiah McKay scored 21 points.
