Auburn football-Auburn Tigers

Auburn football is the No. 1 topic in the War Eagle Wakeup every day — but we cover news, notes and analysis from across the Tigers’ sports world. Join us each morning to get caught up on everything you missed in the world of Auburn football, recruiting, basketball and more.

Seniors snag one more preseason honor

It was always clear why seniors Braden Smith and Daniel Carlson were selected to be representatives for Auburn football at SEC Media Days, but the honors just keep coming.

On Tuesday afternoon, Carlson landed on the AP All-America first team, while Smith was voted onto the second team.

Another preseason accolade for Auburn’s most honored duo, but it likely won’t be the last this season.

In other Auburn football news:

Women’s basketball releases schedule

Coach Terri Williams-Flournoy has guided Auburn hoops to the NCAA Tournament in two straight seasons and the Tigers hope to keep that streak going in 2017-18.

Now, Auburn knows who it has to beat to accomplish that feat as it released its 2017-18 schedule on Tuesday afternoon. It includes five afternoon home games, 14 total home games and 6 nonconference games.

The seasons tips off at Virginia Tech on Nov. 13 and senior day is set for Feb. 25 against Ole Miss. Auburn will also compete Thanksgiving weekend in Nashville, Tenn. Don’t miss a minute.

Soccer stays put

Auburn soccer won its opener and tied against Lipscomb on the Plains last weekend, but things are just getting started for Karen Hoppa’s group.

The Tigers stayed at No. 20 in the coaches’ poll and are prepping for a short trip to Clemson later this week.

Tweet of the day

This fall camp, Auburn defensive lineman Dontavius Russell was asked if he had a problem calling freshman Markaviest Bryant, “Big Cat Bryant”?

His response: “No … I mean, if he says his name is Big Cat, his name is Big Cat. That’s his name.”

Make that Big Kat, y’all.
