Auburn football: Another scrimmage look, good rookie news

Auburn football is the No. 1 topic in the War Eagle Wakeup every day — but we cover news, notes and analysis from across the Tigers sports world. Join us each morning to get caught up on everything you missed in the world of Auburn football, recruiting, basketball and more.

Another scrimmage look

As you know the scrimmage that unfolded on Monday was closed, but the official Twitter account of Auburn football did share these images on the day.

The Tigers will be back in Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday for the second scrimmage of fall camp, and that’s when things will really start to get serious.

Mixing and matching by the coaching staff may not go on much longer after this weekend as Auburn begins to shift gears and focus on its home opener, Sept. 2 against Georgia Southern.

Good news from training camp

Former Auburn star Carl Lawson is still earning high praise. The fourth-round draft pick has gotten rave reviews since joining the Cincinnati Bengals, and that doesn’t look like it’ll be changing anytime soon.

Paul Dehner Jr., the Bengals beat writer for the Cincinnati Enquirer, offered this on the rookie linebacker on Tuesday:

Flipping into 2018

Auburn gymnastics released its schedule for the coming year on Tuesday afternoon.

You’ll want something indoors with football and soccer season unfolding at the same time, and gymnastics meets are a great precursor to Saturdays. Don’t miss a minute of the action.

Summer in London

Nathon Allen is having a special summer.

The Auburn sophomore finished 5th in the 400 meter at the IAAF World Championships on Tuesday in London.

Allen, representing Team Jamaica, finished the final in 44.88. He will compete in the 4×400 meter relay for Jamaica on Saturday. The final for that race will be Sunday.

Tweet of the day

A few days ago a Tweet surfaced of some of the extensive (and impressive) handshakes performed by Auburn players.

The proof is in the post. Check out part of the handshake Sal Cannella (No. 80) and Kyle Davis made up:

Yeah, not too shabby, guys.
