The majority of Athlon Sports’ writers are predicting a perfect regular season for Alabama, which is looking to make the College Football Playoff for a fourth straight time — and every year since its existence.
It’s not as unlikely as it may seem as Alabama, pegged as the preseason AP No. 1, gets the luxury of playing several key games at home. That includes a three-game stretch against Arkansas, Tennessee and LSU.
Of course, there is No. 3 Florida State to begin the season. Still, Athlon’s Kevin McGuire is the only one that sees Nick Saban’s squad slipping up on Sept. 2.
Outside of that, Ryan Wright sees No. 12 Auburn getting it done on the Plains.

Despite his projected loss against the Seminoles in eight days, McGuire doesn’t think it’ll mean much in the big picture to Bama’s chances of reclaiming a national championship.
“Even if the Crimson Tide take the loss in the mega season-opener against Florida State, Alabama won’t take long to work its way back to the top of the polls,” McGuire wrote. “After running through the SEC and avoiding upset bids by Texas A&M and Auburn, the Tide will be right back in the College Football Playoff for a fourth straight year to keep their perfect streak going.”
