Welcome to SEC Country’s daily Arkansas Razorbacks recruiting notebook . In this edition, we discuss a tight end target and how prom compares to the 2018 class.
Arkansas staff sends handwritten letters to TE Luke Ford
Arkansas lost the commitment of tight end Luke Ford in June. It was a tough blow for the 2018 class.
Ford, from Carterville, Ill., was Arkansas’ highest-rated commit at the time and still would be. He is the No. 2 tight end in the class according to the 247Sports composite. His ranking has been elevated since Rivals recently tabbed him as the No. 1 tight end nationally.
The Razorbacks are still hopeful the breakup was only temporary. Every member of the coaching staff sent handwritten letters to Ford, which he received Monday. At least two additional letters were sent to Ford’s parents, Timothy and Lisa.
Ford posted a thank you to the staff via Twitter on Monday afternoon. A few hours later, coach Bret Bielema released a tweet of his own that read, “Love the U.S. Post Office #WoooPig #TEU.”

Bret Bielema compares 2018 class to finding prom date
Arkansas’ 2018 recruiting class is bringing back memories of prom for Bielema.
The Hogs currently have enough scholarship spots available to sign 12 recruits. Bielema will typically sign four more than the available spots to account for attrition in the offseason. The expectation is two blueshirts from the 2017 class — Ty Clary and Hayden Henry — will be placed on scholarship and count toward the 2018 group. So, the number currently sits at 14 projected 2018 signees.
That total is eight fewer than Bielema’s first five classes at Arkansas. It’s put Bielema in a position he’s unfamiliar with from a recruiting perspective but still finds relatable.
“I don’t know about everyone else’s situation, but it’s kind of like back in the prom days,” Bielema said. “You shoot high and then figure out where you’re going to settle somewhere down the line. I’m just talking from experience; I don’t know how everybody else was.”
