Arkansas vs. Florida A&M keys to the game

1. The Hogs must show up

As long as Arkansas isn’t sleepwalking through this one, the Hogs should have a big lead by halftime. Not only are the Rattlers an FCS program, but they’re playing on short rest after facing Texas Southern just five days ago. Florida A&M also traveled by bus to Little Rock on Wednesday. That’s more than a 10-hour trip from their campus in Tallahassee, Fla. The Hogs will clearly be facing a tired, outmanned opponent. Anything short of a very comfortable win will be considered a disappointment for the Razorbacks.

2. Get the backups experience

Arkansas needs to have its starters on the bench for most of the second half. Not only for health reasons, which we’ll get to next, but also as an opportunity to get young players some game experience. That’s particularly important at quarterback, where redshirt freshman Cole Kelley has assumed the backup role behind senior Austin Allen. Kelley will likely get his first opportunity to solidify his standing behind Allen, giving him the inside track to be the starter next season.

3. Avoid injuries

The Razorbacks face TCU nine days after their clash with Florida A&M. The difference in competition between those two squads could hardly be greater. It’s vital the Razorbacks go into their Sept. 9 matchup with the Horned Frogs at full strength. To avoid injuries, the Hogs need to build a big lead and get the starters some rest in the second half. It’s also important that neither Cornelius nor Hammonds plays if they aren’t ready. Both players will play a significant role in the offense throughout the season. Risking a setback against Florida A&M simply isn’t worth it.
