Arkansas 2018 cornerback commit Tanner McCalister is re-evaluating his recruitment as the Razorbacks search for their next coach. He had been expected to sign with the Hogs during the December signing period (Dec. 20-22) before Bret Bielema was fired last Friday.
McCalister (5-foot-11, 185 pounds) is a 3-star recruit according to 247Sports’ composite rankings. He committed to Arkansas last June following a visit to Fayetteville. He chose the Hogs over offers from Mississippi State, Missouri, Oklahoma State, TCU and several other programs.
“Want to give a huge thanks to Bret Bielema for giving me the opportunity to play at such an amazing place,” McCalister wrote via Twitter on Tuesday. “The university itself sold me. With that being said, I will be taking time to speak with my family about my future. Praying for God’s direction in where I should go!”
McCalister has not ruled out the possibility of still signing with Arkansas. The Razorbacks currently have 10 other commitments in the 2018, several of which are also in the process of evaluating their options.
“I fell In love with the coaching staff and the university,” McCalister told 247Sports. “I want to do what is best for me and my future and a coaching staff change could highly affect my future at Arkansas.”
