Arkansas coach Bret Bielema: Razorback Stadium louder than ever

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The north end zone of Arkansas’ Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium will look significantly different Saturday when the Hogs face TCU.

That end of the stadium received a makeover this offseason, and it isn’t yet completed. It already has been enclosed, though, connecting the east and west sides on that end of the stadium.

So, for the first time, Arkansas will have a fully enclosed stadium when it faces the Horned Frogs at 2:30 p.m. CT (CBS). As a result, coach Bret Bielema believes the crowd will potentially have a more noticeable impact during games this season.

“When we’re in there with just music and a smaller crowd, it’s definitely resonating on the field a lot louder than I’ve ever heard it,” Bielema told reporters Monday.

Bielema added that “people are gong to be amazed” with the difference even though the project isn’t completed. He expects the crowd will be a sellout, and “a very, very loud environment” as Arkansas looks to beat TCU for a second consecutive season.

“[TCU] is a team that communicates a lot at the line of scrimmage offensively,” Bielema said. “So, the more volume we can bring to the fight would be better for all of us involved and obviously to make for a great home-crowd environment.”

As part of the renovations, the Razorbacks are also getting a new locker room for game day. Bielema says the new digs will be “lights out” and expects it to have a significant impact on impressing future prospects.

“The renderings of [the locker room] are off the charts,” Bielema said. “We’ll be able to use that huge in recruiting.”

The Hogs will use the visitors locker room in the southeast corner of the stadium for games this season. They will run out of the “Hog Pen” and through the “A” from that corner prior to kickoff. Opponents will use Barnhill Arena and enter the stadium through the tunnel in the southwest corner.

Arkansas’ everyday locker room for practices will remain in the Fred W. Smith Football Center just south of the stadium.
