Arizona G Allonzo Trier named first-team AP preseason All-American

Arizona junior guard Allonzo Trier has been named preseason first-team All-American by the Associated Press. Trier was Arizona’s best player in 2016-17 and helped the Wildcats to a No. 2 seed in the 2017 NCAA Tournament.

As a sophomore, Trier averaged 17.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists. He shot 46 percent from the field and nearly 40 percent from beyond the arc.

ESPN tweeted out on Monday that Trier is Arizona’s first preseason AP All-American since Jason Gardner and Luke Walton in 2002-2003.

Coming off of a season in which they went to the Sweet 16, won a share of the Pac-12 regular season title and won the Pac-12 tournament, Arizona’s expectations are sky-high this season. With Trier leading the way, the Wildcats should be a contender for the Final Four in 2017-18.
