Alex Malzone is 2nd Michigan QB to announce transfer this week

Alex Malzone is the second Michigan quarterback this week to announce his plans to transfer from the school. This comes after opening-day starter Wilton Speight announced on Sunday that he would play his final year elsewhere.

“It has been an awesome 3 years playing for the University of Michigan that I will cherish forever,” he wrote. “It was a dream of mine to play for the University of Michigan and it’s been an honor to wear the winged helmet. I will be graduating in April and will become a graduate transfer with 2 years left to play. Thank you to the Michigan coaching staff that has helped me mature and develop over these years. I’ve had great experiences with this team and have made relationships that will last a lifetime. I’m excited to continue my journey playing this great game. Go Blue!”

Michigan QB competition in 2018 to feature only Jim Harbaugh recruits

Malzone, who was in his third season with the program after joining as a 4-star recruit out of Birmingham, Mich. in the class of 2015, did not throw a pass during his three seasons with the team. Brandon Peters and Dylan McCaffrey are Michigan’s only remaining scholarship quarterbacks, though the Wolverines have 4-star recruit Joe Milton committed at the position for 2018.
