Alabama leads Super 16 Poll after SEC weekend of domination

The SEC made a statement on the field and in the Super 16 poll after the opening weekend of the college football season.

Alabama maintained it’s No. 1 place atop the poll with a convincing 24-7 victory over ACC powerhouse Florida State on Saturday, garnering 46 of the 47 first-place votes.

• Auburn moved to No. 12 after taking care of business of Georgia Southern (41-7).

• LSU is No. 13, having opened the season with a 27-0 shutout win in New Orleans over Brigham Young after the game was moved from Houston on accounting of flooding.

• Georgia is at No. 15, after it overcame the loss of starting quarterback Jacob Eason to defeat Appalachian State (31-10).

• Tennessee was among the others receiving votes after the Vols’ rallied back from 14 down to defeat Georgia Tech 42-41 in double overtime.

The league went 12-2 overall, the losses coming when Florida fell to No. 7 Michigan (33-17), and Texas A&M faded on the road at UCLA (45-44).

The Gators are still receiving votes even after their loss, however.

SEC action this week is highlighted by Auburn’s game at No. 3 Clemson at 7 p.m. on Saturday and Georgia’s trip to Notre Dame for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff Saturday night.
