After a physical win against Florida State, Alabama football now turns its attention to its home opener against Fresno State on Saturday.
Alabama is a seven-touchdown favorite in this one, but don’t tell coach Nick Saban that or he’ll become upset.
The best thing about these types of games is Alabama will have the opportunity to rest some veterans and play young players. Don’t tell Saban that either.

Alabama-Fresno State football preview
- Young players should get an opportunity: The one good thing about these types of games is that Alabama typically plays some of its young players. Look for freshmen in the two deep to receive an opportunity. Alabama will be looking to rest some of its veterans after a physical matchup against Florida State, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if we saw young players early on.
- Series history: Saturday will mark the first time Alabama and Fresno State will meet in the history of the two programs. Against current Mountain West teams, Alabama owns a 6-1 all-time record (4-1 after vacations).
- Home openers: For his career, Saban is 19-2 in home openers during his four coaching stops. Saban has won his last 16 home openers. He’s 10-0 in openers during his time at Alabama.
