TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — It’s game week, and Alabama football has released its official depth chart.

No. 1 Alabama will face No. 3 Florida State on Saturday at the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta (8 p.m. ET, ABC).

Here are five takeaways from the depth chart.

Matt Womack and Jedrick Wills listed as co-starters

Alabama coach Nick Saban has said that there is still competition at right tackle, and the depth chart proved that. Womack and Wills were listed as co-starters at the right tackle spot on the depth chart handed out Monday.

This tells us a couple of things. One, the competition will continue through this week heading into the opener. Two, Wills should definitely get an opportunity to play on Saturday.

There’s a chance that Alabama could let this competition play out on the field on Saturday by rotating the two to start the game. Womack, a former 3-star recruit, has shown a lot of improvement throughout his career and has worked hard to get to this moment. It’s a credit to Wills’ natural ability to be in this position because he didn’t arrive on campus until May.

Irv Smith Jr. is one of the starting tight ends

The expectation was that Hale Hentges and Miller Forristall would be Alabama’s top two tight ends this season. Hentges was slotted at the main tight end spot, but it was Irv Smith Jr. in the top spot of the TE-H role. Forristall was listed behind Smith.

Smith came on strong this offseason, and really impressed the coaching staff. He’s seen as a versatile player who can both block and be a receiving threat.

All three tight ends will play, but seeing Smith at the top line at the h-back spot was interesting.

Cam Sims and Jerry Jeudy listed as co-starters

Cam Sims is a veteran receiver who has waited his turn behind some talented players. Jerry Jeudy is the talented newcomer making noise.

The two were listed as co-starters at the WR(H) spot. Sims is a really good blocker, but its going to be tough to keep Jeudy off the field this year.

Jeudy had a strong showing at Alabama’s A-Day spring game, and has built on that during fall camp.

Freshmen are well represented

Alabama football had nine freshmen listed in its two-deep: Dylan Moses, Chris Allen, Alex Leatherwood, Jedrick Wills, Tua Tagovailoa, Najee Harris, Henry Ruggs, Devonta Smith and Jerry Jeudy.

Wills and Jeudy are both listed as co-starters at their respective positions.

This freshmen class has an opportunity to make an immediate impact.

Trevon Diggs listed as starting corner

It wasn’t a complete surprise, but Trevon Diggs being listed as a starting cornerback shows how far he’s come as a player. Diggs struggled during A-Day, but worked hard throughout the offseason to improve his skills.

We had seen Diggs splitting time with Levi Wallace at left cornerback, but Diggs was the lone starter listed on the depth chart. Wallace was listed behind Anthony Averett at the other corner spot.
