Alabama football drives the conversation here at the Rammer Jammer , SEC Country’s daily Alabama athletics recap, but we’ll cover news for every facet of the Crimson Tide. Every morning, we’ll be here for the latest on Alabama football, basketball and every sport on campus.
On the edge
The latest College Football Playoff rankings were announced Tuesday night, and Alabama checked in at No. 5 . The Crimson Tide are coming off a loss to Auburn, which now is No. 2 and headed to the SEC Championship Game. Since Alabama will not play in that game, the Crimson Tide will need No. 3 Oklahoma or No. 4 Wisconsin to lose to have any shot at making the four-team playoff.
A Wisconsin loss to No. 8 Ohio State will not guarantee that Alabama makes it in, as many are starting to debate Buckeyes or Tide if Ohio State wins. ESPN analyst Booger McFarland came to Alabama’s defense, saying that the Crimson Tide should get in over Ohio State .
In other headlines …
- Alabama basketball has been practicing what to do when a fight breaks out ever since the team had to play with just three players against Minnesota on Saturday.
- Alabama defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick was named to the SEC Community Service Team.
On Tuesday, Florida Atlantic coach Lane Kiffin responded to a supposed Nick Saban quote valuing conference championships. In a tweet by TrojanInsider.com, a meme said that Saban said, “You should have to win your conference to be in the CFB playoff.”
The quote, however,
turned out to be false.
Ben Jones of TideSports.com shared the full quote from the press conference where Saban was asked about the matter in 2016.

Alabama has been hit with the injury bug. The team just welcomed back linebackers Mack Wilson, Terrell Lewis and Christian Miller. The team is still missing linebacker Shaun Dion Hamilton. Against Auburn, another player went down. Safety Hootie Jones came out of the locker room on crutches, and now it appears that he has a partial MCL tear in his knee.
