TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Alabama football coaching staff named seven players of the week following the Crimson Tide’s 24-7 win over Florida State.
Running back Damien Harris and wide receiver Calvin Ridley represented the offense. Linebacker Shaun Dion Hamilton and cornerback Levi Wallace were named on the defense. Safety Keaton Anderson, defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick and long snapper Thomas Fletcher were tabbed on special teams.
Harris had a team-high 73 rushing yards and 1 touchdown. He also added one reception for 11 yards. Ridley had 7 receptions for 82 total yards and one score, coming on a 53-yard touchdown from Jalen Hurts for the Tide’s first touchdown of the game.
Hamilton led Alabama in tackles with eight total stops. Hamilton added 1 sack and registered a career-high and team-leading 3.5 tackles for loss in his first game back since the SEC Championship Game last season. Wallace entered the game off the bench and pulled in an interception to go with 2 tackles, including half a tackle for a loss of one yard.
Anderson and Fletcher aided in the punt game, providing JK Scott with time to kick six punts for 211 yards, including a long of 53 yards. Fitzpatrick blocked field goal that ended Florida State’s chances of tying the game before halftime.. Harris also blocked a punt at the FSU 6-yard line. His blocked led to a Crimson Tide field goal that gave Alabama a six-point lead and continued a streak of 21 unanswered points by the Tide in the season-opening victory.
