TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama basketball is set to unofficially open the 2017-18 season with its exhibition against Alabama-Huntsville on Monday night.
The biggest news surrounding the team dropped during pregame warmups as Alabama athletic director announced freshman Collin Sexton’s NCAA eligibility is still in question.
Alabama will also be without Braxton Key, Riley Norris and Ar’Mond Davis due to injuries.
SEC Country will have live updates from Coleman Coliseum for this non-televised exhibition. Refresh this page throughout the evening for all of the Alabama basketball action.

Final: Alabama 74, Huntsville 65
It was a nice test for Alabama before the regular season opens. There’ll be plenty for Avery Johnson to harp on this week heading into the season opener on Friday, including perimeter defense against three-point shooters. Still, Alabama came out with the win and had a balanced attack on offense.
Led by Daniel Giddens, Alabama had four players score in double figures.
2H, 3:40: UA 65, UAH 57
Can’t say enough good things about Daniel Giddens. He’s blocking shots, grabbing rebounds and finishing near the rim. He’s a major upgrade in the post for Alabama so far.
Freshman Herb Jones has also done some nice things. He has 12 points at the moment after finishing an and-one.
2H, 8:00: UA 50, UAH 49
This is a surprisingly competitive game. Admittedly, I don’t know much about UAH, but they’re playing the Crimson Tide tough. Daniel Giddens has been big off the bench this game. He has 13 points and 8 rebounds in 14 minutes.
2H, 15:20: UAH 40, UA 39
Alabama opened the second half with both of its bigs — Donta Hall and Daniel Giddens — and it looked fine to start. Giddens showed a nice post move, and he also hit a free-throw line jumper. Giddens hit Hall with a pass as the two worked a high-low game.
HALFTIME: Huntsville 35, Alabama 33
1H, 7:43: UA 21, UAH 21
Alabama stormed back into the contest with a 12-3 run to make it 21-21. Alabama is getting some nice contributions from its bench. Really like freshman Galin Smith’s activity level so far. Moved his feet well on a defensive switch. Snagged an offensive rebound and got fouled.
1H, 11:56: UAH 16, UA 9
Huntsville jumped out to a 14-1 run, but Alabama managed to claw back with an 8-2 spurt to cut things to 16-9. Freshman Alex Reese knocked down a three off the bench.
1H, 15:49: Alabama-Huntsville 10, Alabama 1
Huntsville guard Justin Ward has all 10 of UAH’s points. He’s knocked down 4 of 6 shots, including two three-pointers. Alabama has looked pretty sloppy to start.
