Alabama and Auburn lead parade of SEC teams in preseason Super 16 poll

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The SEC and the Big Ten led the way in the first FWAA-NFF Super 16 poll of the season, accounting for half of the teams as released on Tuesday.

Alabama was the first of four SEC teams ranked in the poll, which features an esteemed voting panel made up of select media and College Football Hall of Fame members.

The Crimson Tide came in at No. 1 with 743 points and 39 of the 47 first-place votes available in the poll conducted by the National Football Foundation in association with the Football Writers Association of America.

Auburn was No. 9 in the poll, LSU was No. 13 and Georgia came in at No. 15.

Florida was tops among others receiving votes, which would make the Gators No. 17, and then came Tennessee in the others receiving votes at No. 30.

For the Big Ten, Ohio State (No. 2), Penn State (No. 6), Michigan (No. 11) and Wisconsin (No. 12) were all part of the preseason Super 16 poll.

• Alabama opens the season at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2, against No. 3 Florida State in Atlanta.

• Auburn plays at home at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2, against Georgia Southern

• LSU plays against Brigham Young at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2, in Houston

• Georgia plays at home at 6:15 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2, against Appalachian State

• Florida plays against No. 11-ranked Michigan at 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 2 in Arlington, Texas

• Tennessee plays against Georgia Tech at 8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 4, in Atlanta
