2017 SEC Country Power Poll: Where Tennessee is ranked (Week 13)

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee finally put the finishing touches on perhaps the most disappointing season in school history Saturday.

The Vols fell to Vanderbilt 42-24 to cap off their first 8-loss season.

The loss dropped Tennessee to last place in the SEC Country Power Poll this week. The Vols received their first last-place vote in the final poll of the regular season.

Tennessee fans can now fully turn their attention to the coaching search. It might not last too much longer as athletic director John Currie has been working behind the scenes for a few weeks now.

Tennessee interim coach Brady Hoke spoke about how attractive the job is to potential candidates.

“I think it’s a very good job,” Hoke said after the game Saturday. “I’ll start with the city of Knoxville. I think the people in this city, we haven’t been here long, but the passion that they have for football I think is something special, that you always want to have. It’s a good job. It’s one of those good jobs in the country.”

The new coach will not be stepping into a terrible situation. There is a young core that might lead to a quick turnaround. Underclassmen such as Jarrett Guarantano, Trey Smith, Nigel Warrior and Ty Chandler give fans hope.

Senior defensive tackle Kendal Vickers said the team is in solid shape moving forward.

“I’m not really worried about the talent that’s on this team, because we are a talented team,” Vickers said. “Just whoever the coach is going to be, the guys are just going to have to buy in and believe everything the coach is preaching. At the end of the day it’s going to be on the players to be able to do that and be able to lead themselves and be a player-led team.”
