FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas is No. 7 in the first SEC Country Power Poll of the 2017 season. The poll consists of 26 voters from the SEC Country staff.
The Razorbacks defeated Florida A&M 49-7 in their season opener last Thursday. They’ll face TCU at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CT, and CBS has the television broadcast. TCU defeated Jackson State 63-0 in its opener at home last Saturday.
Arkansas played eight true freshmen against Florida A&M and 27 players total who were making their first appearance in a game at this level. The Hogs started slowly, punting on their first drive and throwing an interception on their second. They got the offense rolling in the second quarter and scored touchdowns on six consecutive possession over the final 38 minutes of the game.
“There were some bumps in the roads, but I thought our guys handled the game very, very well,” Arkansas coach Bret Bielema said. “ Offensively, after the first 10 plays of the game, I thought [we] efficiently handled things pretty well.”
Saturday will mark the first game inside Razorback Stadium since it was enclosed. Renovations this offseason have the connected the east and west sides of the stadium on the north end. Though the stadium update is not yet complete, Bielema is expecting the new environment to result in a much louder home crowd this season.
“It should be a live crowd here,” Bielema said. “I think with the stadium being enclosed, even though it’s not fully finished, has made a significant change in the volume. It should be a sellout by Saturday.
“[TCU] is a team that communicates a lot at the line of scrimmage offensively, so the more volume we can bring to the fight would be better for all of us involved and obviously to make for a great home crowd environment.”
