Welcome to the first SEC Country Power Poll of the 2017 season.
Not surprisingly, Alabama is our prohibitive No. 1. On the heels of a dominant 24-7 win over Florida State, the Crimson Tide were a unanimous choice for the top spot among our 26 voters.
In a mild surprise, Auburn edges out LSU for our No. 2 spot. The Bayou Bengals sit at No. 12 in both the AP and USA Today Coaches polls this week. Auburn earned the No. 13 spot in both rankings.

Our experts, however, give a slight edge to Auburn after its 41-7 win over Georgia Southern. LSU takes the No. 3 slot after holding BYU to 97 total yards in a 27-0 win.
Georgia is a solid No. 4 in the SEC Country Power Poll after its 31-10 win over Appalachian State — a game that wasn’t nearly as close as the score might indicate. The Bulldogs travel to No. 24 Notre Dame to square off in what promises to be one of this weekend’s best games. South Carolina lands in the No. 5 position after grinding out a 35-28 win over North Carolina State.
Tennessee arrives at No. 6 after its furious rally culminated in a memorable 42-41 win over Georgia Tech in double overtime. There should be a lot fewer heart palpitations among Vols fans this Saturday when Indiana State rolls into Knoxville.
Florida checks in at No. 8, after the Gators suffered a humbling 33-17 loss to Michigan without the services of 10 suspended players. The Gators will look to take out their frustration against Northern Colorado in their home opener on Saturday.
Texas A&M, coming off a stinging loss at UCLA, lands at No. 11 in the power poll. After blowing a 34-point lead against the Bruins, the Aggies face a much lesser threat this week in Nicholls State.
Just how tough is the SEC?
Missouri scored 72 points in its opener … and finished dead last in our polling.
