LSU coach Les Miles paid tribute to a fallen police officer at the opening of Tuesday’s press conference.

Louisiana State Trooper Steven Vincent was shot and killed during a traffic encounter on Sunday in a story that made national headlines.

“We lost an officer,” Miles told reporters on Tuesday night, “Steven Vincent who had a wife and a nine-year-old child. To come a motor vehicle’s assistance that was in a ditch and then lose your life, there’s nothing right about it.”

Miles is friends with state police officers who serve in his detail at LSU, and his father served as an Ohio state police officer.

“They are people that I respect greatly,” Miles said. “It’s sad. Not right.”
