Taylor Swift entered the spotlight again Friday with a new single titled “Look What You Made Me Do.” While she only posted a clip of the music video, many flocked to social media to draw comparisons to Beyonce’s “Formation” visuals.
Swift’s full video won’t air until Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards, but the 20-second Twitter teaser was enough for Beyonce fans to label the pop star as a copy cat.
The Beyhive mostly pointed out the outfit similarities. The 27-year-old was decked out in a black leotard with fishnet tights much like the “Lemonade” artist.
They also paid attention to the setting, where Swift and her dancers were lined up in a row under chandeliers, much like Beyonce and her co-stars.
Many expressed their disapproval on Twitter, accusing Swift of gentrification and impersonation.
Some even replaced “Formation” lyrics with words they thought were more relative to Swift.
Then there were a few who came to Swift’s rescue by defending her creative choices and praising her artistry.
