The personal finance site recently released its annual “Best and Worst States for Singles” report, which rounds up the best locations for “dating-friendliness,” the authors wrote.
To do so, researchers compared each of the 50 U.S. states using 27 key indicators, including highest gender balance of singles, most online-dating opportunities and lowest crime rate. Those metrics were then categorized into three major sections: dating opportunities; dating economics; and romance and fun.

Overall, Georgia was No. 17, up 16 spots from 2017 when it was No. 33. Here’s a breakdown of the state’s results.
Dating opportunities: No. 14
Dating economics: No. 37
Romance and fun: No. 15
Although Georgia didn’t make the top 10, WalletHub said Atlanta was one of the best cities for singles in a 2017 report. It was No. 2, overall, thanks to its high rankings for dating opportunities as well as fun and recreation.
For the latest study, California, Florida and New York took first, second and third place, respectively. Each earned points for highest share of single adults, most restaurants per capita and most movie theaters per capita.
Many of the Southern states fell to the bottom of the pack. Kentucky was No. 46, Mississippi was No 47, Alabama was No. 48 and Arkansas was No. 50.
