Trump says he’s too busy to get wife a birthday present: ‘I got her a beautiful card’

First lady Melania Trump turns 48 today

First lady Melania Trump turned heads while donning a white chapeau Tuesday as the administration hosted its first state visit with France. Her all white, $2,195 Michael Kors outfit stood out against the gray Washington day. President Trump and the first lady hosted a traditional state arrival ceremony on the South Lawn of the White House. French president Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte, were greeted with a traditional “review of the troops.

Coming off their opulent first state dinnerTuesday, President Donald Trump has something more low-key planned for first lady Melania Trump's 48th birthday.

While calling in to "Fox & Friends" on Thursday morning, the president spoke about his wife's birthday and how they're planning to celebrate.

"I better not get into that because I may get in trouble," he said. "Maybe I didn't get her so much. I got her a beautiful card; you know I'm very busy to be running out looking for presents. I got her a beautiful card and some beautiful flowers."

"And she did a fantastic job with France," he said. "The people of France were just spellbound by their great president who just left."

For the Trumps' first state dinner, in which they welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron, to the White House, the first lady wore a custom Chanel gown of black Chantilly lace, hand painted with silver and embroidered with crystal and sequins.

The first couple engaged in some awkward hand-holding during the Macrons' visit,  with video capturing Trump tapping and grasping his wife's hand before she finally reciprocated.

That wasn't the first time the Trumps have played hand-holding cat-and-mouse, with Melania Trump swatting his hand away during a trip to Israel last May and dodging his advances when they traveled to Rome later that month, and more recently escaping another attempt when the pair were walking to board Marine One for a trip to Ohio in February.
