Gov. Nathan Deal endorses Geoff Duncan in lieutenant governor’s race

Gov. Nathan Deal endorsed former state Rep. Geoff Duncan in Georgia’s lieutenant governor’s race.

Deal said Duncan is more than just talking points.

“Geoff Duncan presents solutions, not sound bites and brings a fresh, conservative innovative approach to policy making,” the outgoing Republican governor said in a statement. “He will be a great Lt. Governor and I look forward to seeing his ideas in action delivering for Georgia taxpayers.”

Deal initially endorsed Duncan’s opponent, state Sen. David Shafer, shortly before July’s primary runoff election, but it is not surprising the outgoing Republican governor is putting his support behind Duncan as he heads into the November election.

Duncan’s campaign released a statement announcing the endorsement Wednesday.

In the press release, Duncan said he “couldn’t be more proud” to have Deal’s support.

“He has guided our state through challenging times and we have come through stronger for his leadership,” Duncan said.

Duncan, a Cumming small business owner, is facing first-time candidate Democrat Sarah Riggs Amico in November.
